About
Before joining Muscat University as Vice Chancellor, Khamis Al-Yahyaee was a Professor of Finance and a former Dean of the College of Economics & Political Science (CEPS) at Sultan Qaboos University. Prior to his appointment as the Dean of CEPS, he was the Head of Economics and Finance Department. During his six years in administration, Professor Al-Yahyaee has garnered remarkable achievements that guided CEPS towards academic excellence. Under his leadership CEPS was regionally and internationally recognized to become the first public university in the Middle East to achieve the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation. He led the College to develop a multi-year strategic plan, oversee the progress of nine academic programs, and initiatives, and promoted a distinct research culture. Under his leadership, Professor Al-Yahyaee supervised the development of numerous programs including the PhD in Management, PhD in Information System, MSc in Accounting and Finance, and M.Sc. in Operations Management and Supply Chain.
In terms of university and community service, his record demonstrates strong service commitment and leadership at the department, college, university, at national, and regional levels. He has served as a chair/member on more than 50 committees, representing SQU, CEPS, as well as national and regional-level committees. During his service at SQU, he signed Memorandums of Understanding with numerous local and international organizations, including the Capital Market Authority, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund, Muscat Securities Market, University of Plymouth, among others. In addition, during his tenure as a Dean, CEPS organized many international conferences including one with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Illinois and another with the Islamic Research and Training Institute in Saudi Arabia. He actively participated in the Finance and Public Finance Labs as part of the National Program for Enhancing Economic Diversification (Tanfeedh Program).
Professor Al-Yahyaee is an active member on several regional, national, college and department committees. At the regional level, he is a member of the Steering Committee for the GCC Economic Research initiative, which includes outstanding economists and researchers from the GCC countries. Nationally, he served as a chair/member of numerous committees, including chairing a joint committee with members from SQU and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He is also a member of another joint committee with members from SQU and the Supreme Council for Planning, and a member of the Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Agreement for establishing the Chair of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Economic Studies. He chaired a team that was responsible for setting a comprehensive plan for the development of SMEs in Oman. He served also as a member of the Financial Committee entrusted to prepare the SQU Five-Year Implementation Plan (2016-2020). One of his major service contributions was to chair a team at the university level to prepare a self-study for the Institutional Audit on Sustainability of Financial Resources and Procurement Management. He is the Chair of the Financial Sustainability Pillar at the Sultan Qaboos University which is entrusted to develop the University Operational Plan for the period 2021-2025 which includes three strategic projects aimed to modernize the financial management system and increase and diversify financial resources. At the college level, he chaired a number of committees, including the College Board, Executive Committee, and College Research Committee.
Professor Al-Yahyaee is a leading scholar in the disciplines of finance and economics. His main focus is portfolio management and investment analysis. He has published more than 70 journal articles in high-impact journals in the field. In recognition of his impactful research contributions, Professor Al-Yahyaee won 5 prestigious awards awarded nationally and internationally. As a well-recognized expert in finance, he received numerous keynote speaker invitations at various professional events. He has also been invited to participate in different prestigious professional conferences in the areas of economics and finance. While Dean of CEPS, he took leadership roles to organize 4 international conferences and forums. Furthermore, Al-Yahyaee has written many technical reports for both the public and private sectors.
Professor Al-Yahyaee received his B.Sc. in Finance from SQU (Oman, 1998), his M.Sc. in Finance from Denver University (USA, 2000) and his PhD. in Banking and Finance from the University of New South Wales (Australia, 2007). Prior to his appointment at the SQU, he was a Resource and Development Advisor at the Petroleum Development Oman.
