Programme Overview
The PhD in Management at Muscat University is a research-based doctoral programme designed for candidates seeking the highest level of postgraduate qualification in management. The programme offers three specialisation pathways — General, Sustainable Energy, and Sustainable Logistics — enabling candidates to align their doctoral research with their field of expertise and career ambitions.
The programme provides a distinctive focus on project management, integrated with the Project Management Institute (PMI) certifications: Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and Project Management Professional (PMP). Candidates who successfully complete the Sustainable Logistics pathway module in Operations Management Planning are additionally awarded the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
Programme Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate deep and advanced current knowledge in the field of Project Management and either Management, Sustainable Energy, or Sustainable Logistics studies
- Apply relevant methodological and analytic research skills, and the ability to conduct an empirical piece of management, logistics, or energy research
- Autonomously develop an original piece of research demonstrating the integration of current knowledge, scientific rigour, and an original contribution to knowledge
- Incorporate the highest levels of ethics in the conduct of research

*Successful completion of an oral interview

Modules
The programme is worth 500 credits in total and is structured across three years (full-time) or four to five years (part-time). Year 1 comprises block-taught modules (the Academic Track); Years 2 and 3 are devoted to independent research, thesis development, and defence (the PhD Research Workshops Track).
Note: Candidates who meet the CAPM/PMP certification requirements may sit the corresponding PMI exam independently. Sustainable Logistics candidates who pass Operations Management Planning (DBOMP) are automatically awarded the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
