Programme Overview

Chemical Engineering is the study of planning, designing and developing products and processes where chemical and physical changes occur. The BEng in Chemical Engineering develops your engineering skills with a firm grounding in chemistry. This degree programme is one of a set of undergraduate programmes

Programme Objectives

The BEng in Chemical Engineering aims to:

  •  Provide you with a thorough grounding in the basic principles of chemical engineering.
  • Provide you with appropriately structured curricula, combining teaching in theoretical and knowledge-based principles with practical skills training.
  •  Produce graduate engineers able to make a valuable contribution to society, equipped with the qualities and skills that are demanded by employers.
  •  Offer you the opportunity to obtain relevant industrial experience with a year-long work placement.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants will typically need one of the following qualifications (or international equivalent) for admission to the programme:

  • A Level: Minimum grade of B in Maths,C in Chemistry and C in one other subject.

  • IB: Minimum 28 points, with minimum scores of 5 in Maths,4 in Chemistry and 4 in one other subject at Higher Level.

  • General Education Diploma or equivalent: Minimum 65% overall, with 65% in Pure Maths, English and Chemistry. Students will need to complete the Muscat University Foundation Programme for entry into the UG programme.

All applicants will be required to provide evidence of a recognised English language qualification, which include the following:

  • GCSE English language: Minimum grade C
  • IB English language: Minimum score of 5 in English at Standard level or Minimum score of 4 in English at Higher level
  • Muscat University Foundation Programme (MUFP): Minimum score of 50% in the Academic Reading and Writing module, and Academic Listening and Speaking module or its equivalent modules in other institutions’ Foundation Year
  • IELTS:   Minimum of 6.0 overall
  • TOEFL:   Minimum of 78 overall
