The Board of Directors of Muscat University appoints Professor Khamis Al Yahyai as Vice-Chancellor of the University
The Muscat University Board of Directors yesterday announced the appointment of Professor Khamis bin Hamad Al Yahyai as Vice-Chancellor of the University.
The appointment was signed by Mr. Khalil Bin Abdullah Al-Khonji Chairman of the Muscat University Board of Directors. The appointment came after competitive recruitment rounds and evaluation presented in the joint meeting of the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees were in a mutual agreement reached that Professor Khamis was the strongest candidate to lead the university through the next stage of its evolution.
Dr. Jumaa Bin Ali Al Jumaa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, commented “I am very proud of the appointment of Professor Khamis Al Yahyai at this important stage of the university’s development. Although the university has witnessed impressive growth since its inception in 2016, one of the university’s aims is to utilize Omani leadership expertise and competencies as well as developing the future leaders of the Sultanate. Professor Khamis has accomplished remarkable achievements at Sultan Qaboos University. The Boards have confidence that this appointment will reinforce Muscat University as one of the leaders in higher education in the Sultanate of Oman.
On this occasion, Mr. Khalil Bin Abdullah Al-Khanji said, “We are very pleased with the appointment of Professor Khamis Al-Yahyai and greatly look forward to his leadership. Professor Al-Yahyai is a leading expert in the economic and political sciences and has a proven record of scientific and administrative achievements, community service and the leadership of successful academic institutions. We believe his expertise and experience regarding the needs of the Sultanate and achieving the Oman 2040 Vision will be instrumental in further growing the University through offering a high-quality education for its students and pioneering research.”
Professor Khamis bin Hamad Al Yahyai, newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Muscat University commented “I thank the Board of Directors and Trustees for giving me the opportunity to lead this promising institution. Muscat University is one of the Higher Education Institutions working with industry to ensure its programmes and research are relevant to the needs of the Sultanate and to the wider region. The University has already achieved so much despite its recent formation building on the original feasibility study carried out by Oxford University, UK. To achieve both the Oman 2040 vision and Muscat University’s own vision, we will create an exemplary educational experience through offering a suite of high-quality-industry-informed programmes. Our message to the community, our partners, our staff and students and the industry is that the next few years will witness the launch of multiple undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes as well as executive education short courses.
Professor Khamis bin Hamad Al Yahyai previously held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Sultan Qaboos University where he led the college to many achievements. One of the most notable achievements being the gaining of academic accreditation of the college in accordance with the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). He also led the development of many programmes in the college such as the PhD in Management, the MSc in Accounting and Finance and the MSc in Operations and Supply Chain Management. He worked to obtain certification for college programmes from professional organizations including ACCA and CFA. Professor Khamis also strengthened cooperation between the Faculty of Economics and Political Science and between various institutions in and outside of the Sultanate through the signing of cooperation agreements.
Professor Khamis has been a prolific researcher and has published more than (70) articles in prestigious journals in the economic and financial fields. He has won (5) prestigious research awards at the national and international levels and secured large-scale grant funding. He is a regular speaker at international, regional, and local conferences due to his extensive experience in financial management with over (30) conferences and (15) research grant on his record. He has often been invited to be a keynote speaker and participated in several professional conferences dealing with issues related to economics and finance, in addition to writing technical reports for various governmental and non-governmental organizations and institutions. , Prof. Khamis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance at Sultan Qaboos University in 1998, a Master’s degree in Financial Management at the University of Denver in the United States of America in 2000 and a PhD in Banking and Finance Management at the University of New South Wales (New South Wales University) ) In Australia in 2007.

جامعة مسقط تعيّن البروفيسور خميس اليحيائي رئيسا للجامعة
مسقط 18 أبريل 2021: انسجامًا مع توجهات السلطنة ورؤية عمان 2040 في تمكين وإحلال الكوادر العمانية بالمناصب القيادية والإشرافية، أعلنت جامعة مسقط عن تعيين البروفيسور خميس بن حمد اليحيائي رئيسا للجامعة.
وقع على قرار التعيين خليل بن عبد الله الخنجي رئيس مجلس إدارة جامعة مسقط والأستاذ الدكتور خميس اليحيائي ، جاء اختيار الرئيس الجديد من قبل مجلس الأمناء بعد منافسة واسعة وإقبال كبير تحضيرًا لانطلاقة جديدة من عمر الجامعة وتحقيق المزيد من الأهداف الاستراتيجية وعليه و بناء على نتائج تقييم المرشحين و عرضها في الاجتماع المشترك لمجلسي الإدارة والأمناء وبعد التوافق قام مجلس الأمناء بتعيين البروفيسور خميس رئيسا للجامعة
وبهذه المناسبة صرح الدكتور جمعة بن علي آل جمعة رئيس مجلس الأمناء بقوله ” فخورون جدا بتعيين البروفيسور خميس اليحيائي الحائز على جوائز دولية مرموقة في مجال البحث العلمي وخدمة المجتمع، حيث تبوأ مناصب قيادية متعددة في هذا المجال في جامعة السلطان قابوس، في هذه المرحلة المهمة من عمر جامعة مسقط، والتي شهدت تطورات متلاحقة خلال الفترة الماضية، حيث تنبني فلسفتها على التعلّم والاستكشاف، ومواكبة المستجدات العلمية عالميًّا، كما تحرص دائما على حسن اختيار الخبرات والكفاءات القيادية العمانية، الأمر الذي يعد أولوية قصوى بالنسبة لنا وفق رؤية المؤسسين في توطين وإحلال الكفاءات العمانية في مختلف المستويات والأصعدة.. وكما حقق البروفيسور خميس إنجازات مشهودٍ لها في جامعة السلطان قابوس فنحن على يقين من أنه سيقود جامعة مسقط بكل احترافية ومهنية واقتدار والتزام نحو الأهداف المنشودة، وتحقيق تطلعات المجتمع العماني في مجال التعليم العالي، وصناعة اسم لا يمكن تجاوزه من خلال جامعة مسقط ليكون منسجمًا مع توجهات السلطنة كما يراها العالم من حولها
كما صرح خليل بن عبد الله الخنجي رئيس مجلس الإدارة بقوله ” سعداء بانضمام البروفيسور خميس اليحيائي وتسلمه زمام القيادة في الجامعة ، علماً ان الدكتور خميس من خبراء العلوم الاقتصادية والسياسية وله سجل حافل بالإنجازات العلمية والإدارية وخدمة المجتمع وقيادة المؤسسات الأكاديمية الناجحة، ونتطلع معه إلى تحقيق إنجازات جديدة للجامعة وصناعة التحول في مختلف المستويات بالجامعة، من خلال التركيز على احتياجات السلطنة وتحقيق ممكنات رؤية عمان 2040 في بناء قطاع تعليم عالي الجودة يرتكز على تنمية مهارات وقدرات الأفراد ويتفرد بالإنتاجية والكفاءة ويلبي طموحات سوق العمل المتجدد
من جانبه علق البروفيسور خميس بن حمد اليحيائي رئيس جامعة مسقط ” أشكر مجلسي الإدارة والأمناء على إتاحة الفرصة لي وقيادة هذه المؤسسة الواعدة، التي تعد إحدى مؤسسات صناعة المستقبل، و التي حققت العديد من الإنجازات رغم حداثة التكوين، و تعد نتاجًا لدراسة مستفيضة من قبل مؤسسة عريقة وهي جامعة أكسفورد من أجل خلق تجربة تعليمية نموذجية يتحقق معها كافة الإمكانيات في تنفيذ الغرض المنشود من إنشائها بوصفها عنصرًا من عناصر الجودة ونوعية البرامج، ورسالتنا للمجتمع والشركاء والقطاع بأن الفترة القادمة ستشهد طرح مجموعة نوعية ومتعددة من البرامج والتخصصات على مستوى الدراسات الجامعية والعليا وبرامج الدكتوراه، والشهادات المهنية وجميع البرامج تأخذ بعين الاعتبار احتياجات سوق العمل العماني، كما تنمي مهارات الطلبة في ريادة الأعمال والتواصل وغيرها من المهارات المطلوبة
يذكر أن الأستاذ الدكتور خميس بن حمد اليحيائي متخصص في الإدارة المالية، ويمتلك خبرة قيادية ذات سجل حافل بالإنجازات العلمية والإدارية وخدمة المجتمع. حيث شغل سابقا منصب عميد كلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية بجامعة السلطان قابوس، فقاد الكلية محققا العديد من الإنجازات أبرزها الاعتماد الأكاديمي للكلية وفق النظام الأوروبي لتحسين الجودة (EQUIS) التابع للمؤسسة الأوروبية للتنمية الإدارية (EFMD)كما أشرف على تطوير العديد من البرامج في الكلية مثل برامج الدكتوراه في الإدارة والماجستير في المحاسبة والمالية، والماجستير في إدارة العمليات وسلسلة التوريد، كما أنه عمل للحصول على التصديق لبرامج الكلية من المنظمات المهنية بما في ذلك (ACCA) و(CFA) وعمل أ.د. خميس على تعزيز التعاون بين كلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية وبين مؤسسات متنوعة بداخل وخارج السلطنة، وذلك من خلال التوقيع على اتفاقيات التعاون
كما أن له إسهامات عديدة في مجال البحث العلمي حيث قام بنشر أكثر من (70) مقالا في المجلات المرموقة في المجال الاقتصادي والمالي، وحصل على (5) جوائز بحثية مرموقة على الصعيدين الوطني والدولي كما حصل على 13 منحة بحثية وشارك في أكثر من (30) مؤتمرًا من المؤتمرات الدولية والإقليمية والمحلية أ.د. خميس حاصل على شهادة البكالوريوس في تخصص المالية بجامعة السلطان قابوس في عام 1998، وعلى شهادة الماجستير في مجال الإدارة المالية بجامعة دنفر (University of Denver) بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في عام 2000 ودرجة الدكتوراه في إدارة البنوك والمالية بجامعة نيو ساوث ويلز (New South Wales University) بأستراليا في عام 2007
