Dr. Suseela Balakrishnan

Dr. Suseela Balakrishnan joined Muscat University in October 2019 as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Journey. She is responsible for the strategic direction and management of all the stages within the ‘student lifecycle’ that ensure students are placed at the centre of the University services and operations. The Student Journey Directorate plays a critical role in the overall student experience at the university; from the very first marketing and student recruitment efforts to engaging the students when they become alumni and ambassadors for the University. Within this directorate, Dr. Suseela oversees relevant departments related to Marketing and Communications, Student Recruitment and Admissions, Academic Registry, and all forms of Student Administrations, Support and Welfare.

Professionally, Dr. Suseela has been part of the education landscape for more than 20 years, having worked in various organizations and worn multiple senior leadership hats. Prior to joining Muscat University, she was the Head of Design, and Monitoring & Evaluation with LeapEd Services Ltd Pte (owned by Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the sovereign wealth fund of the Government of Malaysia), an organization that is spearheading nationwide education transformation in collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Education. Within this role, she was responsible for large scale impact studies, design of education transformation blueprints in line with global education needs as well as the creation and implementation of the company’s Innovation Pipeline. Prior to that, Dr. Suseela served as Chief Executive and Director of Academic Operations for INTI International College Kuala Lumpur (previously part of US based Laureate Education Group), where she led the start-up initiatives and growth of the organization focusing on the strategic planning, as well as management of overall operations and international partnerships.

A recipient of the prestigious ‘U.K Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship’, Dr. Suseela received her doctorate in Education from the University of Leeds in the area of Multiple Intelligences and Instructional Innovation. She is also a qualified Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist with a Pearson SRF ABDI Level 6 Professional Certificate in Human Capital Investment Planning. Dr. Suseela is a big proponent of “Education Done Right” and a firm believer of quality education that is relevant and empowering. She hopes that her professional philosophies and experience will enable her to successfully contribute to the vision, mission and growth of Muscat University.
