Muscat University Engineers Gain Advanced Technology Insights
Muscat University – which provides career and industry focused, research-informed and internationally-accredited degree programmes from its brand new capital city campus – recently sent an academic delegation to globally-renowned Shimadzu Corporation in Dubai. Shimadzu is a global leader in the development of precision technologies and laboratory, teaching and research staff in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology undertook six days of intensive training and assessment of some of the world’s most advanced scientific instruments.
Muscat University’s Research and Analytical Laboratory within its Al Ghubra base is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment from a range of high-quality international science and technology suppliers.
Bachelors and Masters programmes in Chemical Engineering at Muscat University are delivered in partnership with two leading British universities. All graduates are awarded dual degrees. At Postgraduate level, these are provided with Cranfield University, an institution renowned for expertise in technology and management. Cranfield is the largest UK provider of Masters level graduates in engineering. In the most recent assessment by the UK Government, 81% of Cranfield’s research was declared ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.
Undergraduate programmes in Chemical Engineering at Muscat University – uniquely in the Sultanate of Oman – incorporate a year-long industry placement. Degree awards are made jointly with Aston University, based in Birmingham, UK. In the 2015-16 QS Graduate Employability Ranking, Aston is ranked 27th in the World and 3rd in the UK for Partnerships with Employers, and has a distinguished record in education leading to high-quality graduate employment.
Muscat University scientists Dr. Sherwin T. Sepe and Laboratory Specialist Ms. Sheikha Al Amri were introduced to the latest advances in the field of Mass Spectroscopy, along with other complex instruments. The session culminated with assessment and ongoing accreditation for the scientists, which was welcomed by Dr. Nader Mosavat, Director of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. He said: “The development and application of analytical tools is fast-moving. Here at Muscat University we possess high-end instruments both for education and research, and it is crucial that our scientists maintain the closest possible links with industry and remain up-to-date in terms of innovation. We are delighted to have such a positive association with a quality provider such as Shimadzu.”
Professor Yusra Mouzughi, Muscat University’s Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the close relationship between research and teaching staff and industry partners, noting: “At Muscat University we seek to work with the very best.
