Muscat University, Oman’s newest university which is partnering with the highly ranked Cranfield University and Aston University in the UK, recently conducted an Open Evening session for the benefit of prospective students.
It was a very lively interactive session and the vice chancellor, professor Anthony Cahalan, along with administrative and faculty members addressed the questions and concerns in the minds of the audience.
Muscat University will offer bachelor’s and master’s programmes starting in September.
Professor Cahalan said, “The event has generated a lot of interest among Omani and international students. It was heartening to see so many eager young people wanting to be involved in this exciting new university. We spoke to students about the industry-engaged programmes we offer and their relevance to the social and economic priorities of Oman and of the region. A number of students have already registered an interest for our pathway programmes and we look forward to furthering interest over the coming months. We are making the dream of Muscat University a reality and we hope that by providing high-quality international education in Muscat, we can empower Omani and international students to achieve their dreams.”
Muscat University offers programmes through three faculties of Business and Management, Engineering and Technology and Transport and Logistics, plus the pathway programmes which prepare students for the bachelor’s and master’s degrees. It will co-deliver bachelor’s and master’s degrees with the renowned UK universities, Aston and Cranfield, with flying faculty from the UK supported by Muscat-based academic staff. Most importantly, on successful completion of their programmes, students at Muscat University are awarded a degree from both Muscat University and from its relevant partner institution, either Aston or Cranfield university.
Muscat University is further enhancing the student experience by heavily investing in the development of students’ entrepreneurial skills through activities that complement their classroom experiences such as industry placements and exchange programmes. The academic staff and fellow students will be a diverse international mix, increasing their intercultural awareness, creating a global social network and providing an opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Also, Muscat University is utilising the latest teaching techniques and pedagogical approaches, thus providing a rich and rewarding student experience.
The vision of the university is to deliver first-class teaching supported by research that is rigorous and relevant for all students. Muscat University will soon move to its own new campus on Sultan Qaboos Street, beside the Porsche showroom, where this academic year’s programmes will commence.
